Dear Prospective VFD Member:

Bret J. Murphy, Fire Chief
I am pleased you are considering becoming a member of the Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department (SCVFD). We serve a large area that encompasses several communities including Spring Creek. We are able to provide emergency services to these communities through volunteers like you. As a volunteer, you will be asked to give of yourself to help others, for no pay. There aren’t many people left who want to volunteer so I applaud you on your path to becoming an SCVFD member.
There are several steps to becoming a volunteer that require many hours of dedication and training. Many volunteers get discouraged from the start when they find out they cannot respond to calls on day one. You must understand we want nothing more than to have you help us out, we need all the help we can get, but for your safety and the safety of our staff, we need you to also be safe. We will provide the training, and you must possess the right attitude to move forward. If you work with us, we will help you become a successful emergency responder.
As a volunteer, you must remember that the residents of Spring Creek will be relying on your training and skills in times of emergencies. You must realize emergencies don’t always happen at convenient times. You will be asked to respond at all hours of the day or night, and this can cause hardships on family and work. Please consider these aspects of becoming a volunteer before committing. However, if you do decide to become a member, I will say for all of the late and sleepless nights, there is nothing more rewarding than helping someone who is in a dire situation, and you are able to use your skills to help them.
If you feel you are up to the challenge of becoming a Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Fighter, we will assist you in reaching your full potential as a volunteer in this department.
I wish the best for you in your journey to becoming an SCVFD member. The fire service is filled with tradition, hard work, and perseverance. I hope you will stick with it long enough to experience its rewards.
Sincerely,
Bret J. Murphy, Fire Chief
